MON TUE WED THU FRI SAT SUN

photos of snowy Monferrato by Bruno Accornero; Julio's sketch of an arboreal termite colony in CR

Bruno was passionate about two things in life above all else: nature photography and dogs. In his later years, after retiring from the family firm, he would head out almost every day with his hounds to take pictures of the hills around his village. He collected those images in albums grouped by season, and dreamed of turning them into a film one day, set to the music of Vivaldi’s Quattro Stagioni.

Now he is buried at the top of the hill above the village where he lived all his life. Every few years thieves will come to steal the copper gutters over his grave, but the villagers will return at regular intervals to replace them.

There won't be a winter here. Instead, after many months of daily, heavy rain, rainfall has ceased almost entirely to give way to the dry season. Bright yellow patches have quickly speckled the mountain in front of me. These patches are trees that have turned yellow. My brother told me that a friend once told him that as soon as these trees stop receiving rain, they desperately try to reproduce by blossoming and releasing their bright yellow flowers into the air.

They are so nice, these trees. Especially this one next to my window.
